City of Water Day 2024
Perth Amboy, NJ — June 21, 2024 — The Perth Amboy Free Public Library is pleased to announce its participation in City of Water Day, scheduled for Saturday, July 13, from 9am to 12pm at the waterfront’s boat launch area located at the end of 2nd Street, Perth Amboy. This event, a collaborative effort supported by various local and regional organizations, aims to raise awareness about the preservation of the Raritan Bay and Raritan River waterways.
City of Water Day is made possible through the collective efforts of the Perth Amboy Green Team, Friends of the Perth Amboy Free Public Library, Perth Amboy Clean Communities, NJDEP, EPA, Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Research Program, Sewage-Free Streets and Rivers, Resilient RRBC, Wellpoint, and the City of Perth Amboy. Their commitment underscores the importance of environmental stewardship and community engagement.
This year's event features a dynamic educational program designed to inform attendees about the critical need to protect our water resources from contaminants. Activities include kayaking, water monitoring, a community beach cleanup, as well as live music and food for participants to enjoy.
"The Perth Amboy Free Public Library is proud to lead the effort in raising awareness of this critical issue." said Joel Rosa, Director of the Library." This event not only educates our community about the ecological importance of our local waterways but also encourages hands-on participation in their preservation."
The event is further supported by a small grant from the Hudson River Foundation, NY/NJ Harbor Estuary Program, and the Waterfront Alliance. Their generous contributions have been instrumental in bringing this educational and engaging event to fruition.
City of Water Day 2024 is open to the public, and no registration is required. Families are encouraged to attend and participate in the various activities planned throughout the morning.
